Uni Week: What I Would Tell Pre-Fresher Me

Uni Week: What I Would Tell Pre-Fresher Me

Dear Jas,
So you’re about to go into your first year of Uni, you have absolutely no idea what this year is about to do for you.  You’ve grown in confidence more than you thought you would and you started this blog which actually gave you a sense of direction!  So stop freaking out, I promise you it all works out okay…
Before you go in, please remember that you’re stronger than you think.  Not everyone’s gonna like you, that’s how life works, and you shouldn’t let it affect you.  You have friends.  You have some really great friends.  Stick with them and don’t let the others get in your head.  You only get to do first year once, so make sure to enjoy it in your way: for you that doesn’t mean staying in every night, but it also doesn’t mean going out 24/7, and that’s okay.  Find your own balance and don’t let others dictate what that is.
Work is… challenging, but not in the way you expect.  Essays are different and marking is different and what was an A at A-Level will be seemingly mediocre at uni… But the most important thing you need to remember is don’t be discouraged by it.  It’s the first year, you’re learning this new system and you’re not expected to be perfect, so don’t beat yourself up about it when you aren’t.  And remember, every tutor has office hours and email addresses, use the resources you’ve given.  They’re there, so you may as well let them help you.
I think the most important thing you need to remember is that everything happens for a reason.  There are times when you’ll be sad and defeated and want nothing more than to just stay in bed, but trust me, those days are always followed by better times.  You have a great support system both at home and Uni, use it, I promise they’re there for you.  You’re a fighter, you always have been, so keep going and don’t take yourself too seriously, I promise you this is gonna be a life-changing year.
Hope you guys enjoyed this, it was a bit different but I’m just trying stuff out at the moment.  Good luck to anyone starting University this year, and stay tuned for the rest of Uni week!
Lots of love,
Jas xx
