Once the novelty of something ends, it’s easy to get stuck in a rut. I’ve been stuck in one for the last three or so months.
You see, I’m the sort of person that puts there all into everything they do; if I feel like I can’t give something my all I lose my love for it. I’ve been so busy with everything else in my life, that my blog hasn’t had a chance to be one of my priorities for a while now making it feel like a chore more than anything else.
I never want my blog to feel like a chore. It’s a massive passion project and if that love every disappears then why am I doing it in the first place? However, after some retrospection during my break, I realised that it wasn’t that I was losing interest, it was that I wasn’t able to dedicate the time I wanted to.
The second I took a break and redirected that focus back to this blog, the inspiration came flooding back. I set myself goals, planned posts and genuinely got excited about the content that I was producing again. I wouldn’t exactly say that I was “burnt out” before, but I was a little drained and I couldn’t give this my all. This month of August is the chance for me to give my blog my all.
So, what are my plans for August? Well, stay tuned because there sure are a lot of them…
I may, as you can see, have done this one a little prematurely, but I honestly couldn’t be happier! I always avoided self-hosting because, at the end of the day, this is a hobby for me. There was absolutely nothing wrong with my free .wordpress site. However, now that I generate some sort of income from my blog, I wanted more freedom to really be my own person…
It’s weird to say because I don’t really see it like this (And I can’t believe that it’s happened like this), but I’ve essentially created my own little business here, so the next natural step was to go self-hosted. It was a big step and the first time I’ve really invested in something like this (This is so adult of me wow, who am I?!). I am so excited for this new journey, especially now that I’m financially tied in for another 2 years…
Along with this surge of blog inspiration came a bunch of Youtube inspiration. I’ve slowly been uploading less to my channel because I haven’t been happy with the content I was producing, so we’re going to try something new. Videos are about to get a little different, and to celebrate this new content, I have a whole week of uploads to do with University from 13-19th August! If you want to support me on there (Please do, it’s about to get good I promise), you can subscribe here.
It’s not technically new, because I did my first post in July, but I’m excited to expand my “400 word rants” series. I wouldn’t necessarily say that I’m an angry person, but, like everyone else, there are some things that irritate me and I plan to discuss them on my blog. I don’t intend to offend anyone with this series, and I’m never going to target anyone personally, but I plan to get some things out into the open.
I’ve been trying alternative traffic sources to the usual Twitter/Instagram/Facebook recently, and I’ve seen such an increase in traffic. Therefore, I figured it’s time to try something new andfinally attempt Pinterest. I have no idea what I’m doing, but I’m excited to figure it out. If you want to follow me (Do people do that? Do you “follow” other people on Pinterest? I’m not down with the Pinterest youths yet) then you can do so here.
Like I said, I technically have this little “business” on my hands now, so I’m going to see what happens when I treat it like one? The last year and a half on my blog has just been a bit of fun, and, though I still plan to have fun with it, I’m going tostart taking it more seriously. I usually only take brand opportunities that come my way, and half-heartedly promote my posts, but I’m going to see what happens when I start properly going for it. It’s time to start approaching people, listening to my analyticsm scheduling tweets and seeing what happens. Let’s see if it makes a drastic difference (And I don’t annoy people too much).
I have no idea where any of this will take me, but I’m so excitedfor the month of August! I can’t wait to see where the next month or so takes me.
What are your plans for August, blogging or otherwise?
Lots of love,
Hey, I'm Jasmine Burke. A girl in her twenties fresh out of Uni that's trying to write in any way that she can. I go under the branch of "lifestyle" but honestly, you can find pretty much anything on here.
