It’s weird how time works. One minute you’re attending your first day of primary school and the next you’re wondering around the country of your dreams, celebrating your 21st birthday. Life is speeding past quicker than I would like. However, a part of me is excited for what I hope will come. I know that 21 is still young, and I don’t plan to turn around and have accomplished everything that I want. However, each new year comes with an opportunity to take a look at you’re life, and decide where you want it to go. Therefore, since I loved my 20 before 20 series, I thought I’d set 21 goals for the 21st year of my life.
I’m not going to explain each one because, let’s be real, my posts have been getting longer by the day. However, I’ve split them into sections and have put a brief description of each one. Throughout the year I want to monitor them and provide updates with how I’m doing.
I don’t really have goals in terms of stats or following, because I’m honestly so proud of where I am at the moment. However, I do have some goals of where I want my content to go.
I’m oh so slowly developing my personal style and I quite like where it’s going. To reinforce that, I’d love to do more fashion posts and shoots in my own way. In fact, I have a fashion collab with a pretty cool brand coming out in a couple of weeks.
I keep wanting to do them but I didn’t really have the time, effort or inspiration. I’m now cooking a lot more and have more idea of what I want to do, so it’s fine.
Every time I set myself up, I then become disinterested because it’s not quite me yet. I’m going to get it to be me.
I liked the idea of them, but I did them when I was first starting out and they weren’t what I wanted them to be. Expect way better food diaries in the near future!
I say career lightly, because I’m still in uni and not quite ready for career yet. However, I have vague direction and I want to work on pursuing that in different ways this year…
I want to get better at writing for different publications and getting my name out there in the journalism world. I’ve done a couple and loved it, but I’d love to do one that was paid. I feel like it adds that extra level of professionalism.
As you probably already know, I interned with the Guardian over the summer and am due to go back. However, I would like to explore one other publication, just so I have a taste of a few avenues.
Like I’ve mentioned, right now I’m looking at exploring the journalism world. I’m editor of the Wellbeing section of my uni paper, but I want to explore writing for other sections this year. I want to show more versatility with my writing, and now’s the time. If you want to keep up with what I write, you can do so here.
I’ve wanted to be an author since I was 6 years old, and it’s a dream that’s never died. I actually have a first draft of a novel almost completed, so I’d love to get a second one done.
It’s my final year, so I’m trying as hard as I can to make it a good one.
This is the year I graduate. Would I like a first? Yeah, of course, who wouldn’t. But, my realistic goal is a solid 2:1.
It’s my final year and I only have 8 contact hours a week. Therefore, I want to commit to doing 9am-4pm days in the library doing extra work, only leaving when I have class. Hopefully, that should keep me on track.
I want to eat a breakfast, lunch and dinner every single day while at Uni. I feel like the easiest way for me to do that is to meal prep.
The main goals with life revolve around focusing on my health and becoming a better version of me.
I’m finally in a place where I can go back to the gym healthily! Therefore, I want to take advantage of that and get my fitness back on track.
I’m not going veggie/vegan quite yet, but I would love to cut down on my meat consumption. There’s actually a post coming on this soon (Wednesday, if we’re being specific).
I really like how I’ve restored my hair over the last 4 or 5 years, and recently I’ve been letting it grow. I wanna see what I look like with longish hair for once.
It’s an absolute mess. It needs serious preparing and this will be the year that I do it.
Like I said, I’m in the process of really understanding my style. Therefore, it’s time to have a massive wardrobe clear out and make sure that I wear everything in my wardrobe.
I started up a skincare routine last year, and have been using it since, but I’d love to take it further with what I know now.
I want to play around with my technique. I’m never gonna be makeup artist or beauty blogger standard, but I’d like to have a little go at trying.
I love it and I feel a bit lost from it, so now’s the time.
I’ve got the travel bug. And I’ve got it so bad. I don’t really know where exactly I want to go (Although, I do have a travel bucket list, maybe I’ll put that on here sometime) but I do know that I want to travel the world.
I’m an alright writer. I mean, I can definitely see the improvement from when I started this blog to now. However, I want to refine my technique now.
Will I achieve them all? I have absolutely no idea. And, if I’m being completely honest, I’m not going to hate myself if I don’t. I didn’t set these to ensure that I achieved them all, I set them so I know the direction that I’m going in. As a newly found 21-year-old, it’s nice to know that there are things I have to work towards when I’m feeling lost. So maybe I’ll complete every single one, maybe I won’t. You’ll have to join me on this year to find out..
Hope you’ve enjoyed the birthday posts! Let me know what you thought in the comments!
Lots of love,
Hey, I'm Jasmine Burke. A girl in her twenties fresh out of Uni that's trying to write in any way that she can. I go under the branch of "lifestyle" but honestly, you can find pretty much anything on here.
Sorry. No data so far.
