Oh hey! If you’re reading this post, I guess past Jasmine who wrote this in August decided that Blogmas was feasible and actually published it. I say this because, as I’m writing this in August, I’m still not sure whether I’m going to. You see, I have a lot of issues with Blogmas, and they’re responsible for why I’ve never done it before. However, I love Christmas and I love blogging. Seems like something I should love.
So, what is Blogmas?
Blogmas is (I think, I’m new at this) inspired by Zoella’s famous “Vlogmas” in which people post a video every day until Christmas. Then, people adapted it for the blogging world, having it include a blog post everyday from the 1st December until the 25th. It’s essentially a little advent calendar of blog posts. And I am going to attempt to do it, despite being strongly against it last year.
Why do you hate blogmas?
It’s not that I necessarily hate it. It’s just that, for me I haven’t really had an interest. I don’t know, I guess, when you’re daily blogging around Christmas things, I find the posts tend to get a bit samey? There are a lot of gift guides and a lot of Christmas wishlists and, while they’re great, they’re not the content I write/am interested in. When I think of Blogmas, those are the sort of posts I assosciate with it, so it’s never seemed ideal for me. However, when I really think about it Blogmas can be anything. And I can make Blogmas work for me.
And how do you intend to “Make it Work?”
Well, at the time I’m writing this (In August) I feel that I’ve really started to come into my own when it comes to writing. I think from this post onwards, I really started to find my voice. So, why not celebrate that voice by seeing if I can make Blogmas my own?
I have no idea exactly what it will include. Honestly, as I’m writing this, I’m completely winging it. It will probably be Christmas related… At least most of the posts will be. I’m making absolutely no promises, you’re just gonna have to come back daily to see what this blog holds. This would be the perfect time to subscribe to me (Wink wink, nudge nudge, the sub button’s in my sidebar)
So you don’t even know? Sounds unreliable…
I mean, I have a vague idea! But I don’t want to declare them in case I set myself up for complete failure… I’ve got a few ideas in the pipeline, but I’m not committing myself to planning every single day now. I want to keep my content fresh and cute and somewhat original… Let’s see whether that actually happens, I don’t know.
Keep it original?! How?!
That’s a good question, my friend. Well, as I’ve mentioned, I’m writing this in August. The idea is that, from now until December, whenever I get stuck with a post I’m writing, I’ll turn to a Blogmas one for inspiration. Changing up my content style and theme gets my creative juices flowing and reinspires me. If I were to schedule 25 posts in November/December they’d come out kind of stale and not my best work. I spent a lot of time on my blog posts (Does it show? Who knows…) and so, this is the only way I can dedicate time to it.
Gosh, you think you’re above all the others.
That’s the thing, I really don’t! I know I talked about how gift guides and that lot aren’t my cup of tea. However, it’s not because they aren’t good. They just don’t fit in with my content, so I’ve never really felt like I had a place for “Blogmas”. Also, I’m a Uni student, and managing this all is… a challenge. I suppose I’m setting myself up to fail… Oh God, I’m setting myself up to fail aren’t I?
Woo, can’t wait for your Blogmas posts!
That’s the spirit! Do you know what someone who really can’t wait would do?
